Matrix Education is hiring a commercially minded Financial and Business Analyst to join our team at our Sydney CBD head office.

This is a broad and dynamic role that combines financial and operational analysis to drive business performance. You will be responsible for budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and generating insights that support strategic decision-making across the business.

Reporting directly to the Finance Manager and working closely with the CFO, this role is ideal for an experienced analyst or accountant looking to take the next step in their career, with exposure to both BAU and strategic project work, including M&A.

What you’ll do…

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead and coordinate the budgeting and reforecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational priorities.
  • KPI Tracking and Reporting: Develop, maintain and report on financial and non-financial KPIs to relevant stakeholders, providing actionable insights to drive performance.
  • Board Reporting: Prepare monthly board packs and executive reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance.
  • Business Partnering: Act as a trusted advisor to leaders across the business, helping them understand financial and operational drivers.
  • Performance Analysis: Conduct deep-dive analysis across various business functions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Financial Modelling: Build and maintain financial and operational models to support commercial initiatives, planning, and scenario analysis.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Support strategic initiatives such as M&A due diligence, process improvements, and system enhancements.
  • Risk & Issue Identification: Assist the Finance Manager and CFO in proactively identifying emerging issues and providing timely, data-driven insights.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support and lead initiatives to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, and decision-making tools.

 

What you’ll need…

  • Minimum three years’ experience in financial planning & analysis, management consulting, or a similar analytical role.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related fields.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Looker) highly regarded.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and adaptable with a hands-on approach.
  • Experience working in fast-paced environments with competing priorities.
  • CA/CPA qualification preferred but not essential.
